I picked this book up, when I was staying at my girl-friend's place for a few days, while I was ill last month. Yes, I am a man, and I've read this book, and guess what? I enjoyed it. It's quite a fast paced story about a budding young writer, fresh out of collage, who is looking for a job. She sort of falls into an assistant-to-the-chief-editor position, for a fashion magazine of which she has never heard, and has no interest in. This job is in New York, and is seen by herself and practically everyone else as a super chance, and hopefully a door-opener, into the real world of writing. The catch is, of course, her boss. A super-bitch of the highest degree. I spent most of the book praying for the heroine to stop taking all the unbelievable shit, and tell her boss where to go. I won't spoil the end by telling you if she does or not. Read it yourself and find out, even if, like me, you couldn't care less about fashion.Vollständige Rezension lesen
I had heard a lot about this book and I wanted to read it before the movie finally came out in Europe. So I just put the title of the book in the eBay search engine and there came a series of results I could pick from. I chose a "buy it now" and I got a brand new book only a few days afterwards. The story unfolds slowly at first but then it catches you with all the funny excesses of the plot and it pulls you fast to the last pages. A nice comedy on paper. Much better then the movie I would say; the movie was a bit disappointing. Are we really ready to give up our friends and life for a job "a million poeple would kill for"? Read the book, then give yourself an answer...
